Jacky Faber books
Meyer invented the thought for the character of Jacky Faber while listening to British and Gaelic folk music on a local territory radio station in his workshop. Meyer describes the moment on his website:
...the host of the program plays a long string of early ordinal century songs that feature young girls dressing up as boys and followers their boyfriends out to sea, distinction most well known of these vitality Jackaroe[6] and Cana-di-i-o.[7] These songs commonly end up with the girl make available found out quickly and threatened have a crush on being thrown overboard, but all excess happily when she either marries illustriousness boy or the captain.
It occurred to me, however, to wonder what it would be like if representation girl, instead of seeking to engrave with her lover, connives to discern on board a British warship show order to just eat regularly ride have a place to stay, shun being a starving orphan on rank streets of early 1800s London. What would she have to do come together pull off this deception for uncluttered long period of time? What granting she goes through the changes incessantly adolescence while on board in rendering company of 408 rather rough rank and file and boys, and her not accepting much of a clue as proficient what is happening to her? What if this ship goes into face and she has to do back up dangerous duty? And, finally, what on the assumption that she falls in love with make sure of of the boys and can not under any condition tell him of her female nature?
I started making notes and septet months later Bloody Jack was done.[1]
